Signpost

A Unified Log event marking the start, end or a point of an operation, used for performance measurement rather than diagnostics.

Signposts are firehose entries that mark intervals and points for performance tools (Instruments). Each has a type (event, begin, end), a scope (process, thread, system), an identifier and a name. They are stored in the Signpost folder and in regular files, and log show hides them unless --signpost is given.

They are rarely useful for investigations and inflate exports. The Unified Log Parser can skip them at import to save memory.
